2009

The 2009 is a structured, intense, high textured vintage of Barolo characterized by deep color, generous aromatics, important tannins and well-balanced acidity. For sure a vintage of great aging potential.
The 2009 vintage began with a winter (starting in November 2008)  characterized by heavy snowfall and a rainy early spring (with landslides) that ensured good water reserve in the soil. These reserves have been of crucial importance during the summer: they avoided water stress problems that could occur because of the limited summer rainfall and hot weather especially in the second half of August. The phonological development of the vines started late but reclaimed quickly leading almost everywhere to advance harvest. Bud breaking approximately March 20. Flowering first ten days of June. From May the climate stabilized, the vegetation has grown strong and June, July and August are hot months. September and October mild have facilitated harvest operations. The harvest of Nebbiolo began September 23 and ended on October 8.

2008
2008 vintage has been an exceptional year. Elegance, complexity, classicism, perfect balance and aromatics were fully, graciously expressed.
After the pronounced 2007 advance of phenological stages, in 2008 the situation has returned much more to normal rhythms. The 2008 has started with a fairly mild and arid climate (Jan-Feb-Mar). Starting in April, we had abundant rainstorm during the all spring. The bud-braking was in the first decade, mid-April, quite late, and many buds were eaten by the Noctua butterflies. The growth of the shoots has been quick and we had to work intensely on the canopy to keep it clean and avoid late sunburn of the clusters. The Oidium disease was particularly pressing in this vintage although. old vines were less exposed as they vegetate less. July was cool as well (22-24 °C) with abundant rainfall. In August we had good temperature excursion (with drop even of 10 °C) and warm daytime, determining so a slow ripening (veraison and synthesis of sugars) compared to 2007, similar to the one recorded in 2004. In September and October the weather conditions were excellent with mild temperatures and again good temperature excursion between day and night time. The growing season has stretched considerably, the plants were full of energy and never underwent thermal stress. The harvest of Nebbiolo began Oct. 3rd (20 days later than in 2007) and ended on October 20th. In 2008 vintage we had an excellent levels of ripeness of Nebbiolo grapes: the acid was great, with a fixed acidity slightly higher than in recent years while sugar accumulation has reached exceptional levels. It‘s a great year for Nebbiolo.
2007
2007 vintage has been no doubt another great vintage in Barolo. It’s a vintage that featured Barolos aromatically very expressive, very generous, intense. It’s a rich but as well classic. Powerful but with tannin of a beautiful quality, not aggressive. Very healthy acidities integrated into the voluminous fleshy body. You can feel almost the pulp of the fruit that had an impeccable ripeness. For sure a historical, eclectic, seductive and longtime performing vintage.
2006
2006 is a classic vintage, fresh, balsamic, earthy, mineral expression of Nebbiolo, with precise austere tannins and lively acidity, firm nerve. Elegant and grand vintage.
2005
2005 vintage is a fresh balsamic expression of Nebbiolo, with energetic tannins, crispy acidity and good nerve. Not fleshy in the style but very aromatic, 2005 is a vintage of amazing performance that has great drinking pleasure and elegance. White flower, white and yellow fruits. Spices. Reminiscence of green tea.
2004
2004 has been one of the extraordinary Barolo vintage with the most suitable climate conditions for Nebbiolo grapes. Long vegetative cycle and plenty of energy to be kept under control and addressed to gain depth and complexity of expression. We see this vintage as having great balance, finesse, classic structure and silky texture. Ripe tannins and good acidity make this wine remarkable to drink young but also with enormous potential for the future.
2003
Warm vintage, with little humidity: the old vines with deep roots gave great aromas, while the young vines suffered a little. The wine has good structure with evident tannins. To be discovered in time.

The vegetative cycle in 2003 has been shorter than usual because of the warm and dry summer. Particular focus has been needed in the vineyards to keep in shade the fruits and preserve the aroma. The yields in this vintage were extremely low, reduced also by man intervention in order to help the vines to go over the summer-warmth-stress.

2002
A vintage with continuous hailstorms and rain that ruined the harvest. Apart from some crus in some particularly favourable positions, such as Bricco Ambrogio that made its debut notwithstanding the unfortunate vintage.
2001
This series of magnificent vintages seems a miracle. The 2001 Barolo has more character than the 2000 vintage, it is very similar to the excellent 1999 and is therefore bound to have a long life.
2000
Another incredible vintage. Unlike 1999, this Barolo is more prompt, ready to be poured without having to wait for many years. Fascinating, sensuous and supple.
